On the water at West Loch!
West Loch Shores is the perfect place for watersports. The warm, shallow waters of Escart Bay are ideal for both learning paddlesports or honing your skills on the water. That’s why in 2013 we teamed up with Kayak Majik to give you something a bit different on your holiday with us.
Dave McBride heads up Kayak Majik. He is a British Canoeing Union (BCU) Qualified Paddlesports Coach who can take you out on a beginners taster session or accompany the more experienced paddler on a sea kayaking expedition. Dave is famous for his legendary patience and knows the waters of Kintyre and Mid Argyll like the back of his hand.
Kayak and canoe hire
If you’d prefer, you can hire our kayaks and Canadian canoes by the hour. We provide buoyancy aids, which must be worn when you’re out on the water, and a map with suggested trails. Call into reception to arrange your trip.
Where to go
With views straight down the West Loch to the Paps of Jura, the West Loch trail is by far the most popular. Paddle out towards Eilean da Ghallagain, the Island of Two Strangers, and leave civilisation behind. As you travel round the island look out for seals and ospreys as well as wild deer on the banks on the other side.
If you’d like to stay close to the village we can arrange trips starting at Tarbert harbour which take in two of the best loved local beaches, the White Shore and Shell Beach. Or if you want to explore even further afield try a trip from Tayvallich to the Faery Islands where you will encounter thousands of black starfish.
New for 2015 – Paddleboarding
Join us on the water this year as we add stand up paddleboarding to the list of on the water activities available at West Loch Shores. It’s great sport which burns lots of calories so come and give it a try on the calm West Loch – we can’t promise you won’t get wet but we think you’ll love it!
