Boats
in Gallochoille Bay, Gigha
The beautiful and welcoming Isle
of Gigha is
just a 20 minute ferry journey from Kintyre. The ferries run hourly from Tayinloan on
theA83, 19 miles South of Tarbert. For the reasonably
fit visitor a good flavour of Gigha can be had in a day
visit, either on foot or by bicycle (can be hired at
the Post Office).
The Isle of Gigha was named by the Vikings 'Gudey', The
Good Isle or God's Isle, and it really is such a special
place that once you visit, you will always want to return.
You will experience one of the warmest welcomes in Scotland
when you arrive on the island from the 20 minute roll-on
roll-off ferry journey from Tayinloan on the mainland.
Gigha has always enjoyed a special reputation for the
variety of scenery, wild and birdlife; peace and quiet
and total relaxation that it offers. This is only surpassed
by the friendliness of the Gigha residents.
Gigha is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides,
and because it is low lying and influenced by the North
Atlantic Drift the climate is drier and warmer than that
normally associated with the west coast of Scotland.
The island can boast beautiful bays, stunning views and
breathtaking sunsets, lochs and gently sloping hillsides
as well as a plentiful variety of wild and birdlife.
The climate directly influences the world famous Achamore
Gardens - over 50 acres of rare and unusual plants surrounded
by picturesque woodland. A nine-hole golf course is just
a short stroll from the ferry and hotel, and to completely
relax you can spend many uninterrupted hours watching
seals and otters along the shores.
