14 Days - Day 1 ( Arrival ) Tarbert & Loch Fyne

The purposes of these page is to give you some idea of what can be achieved during a holiday at West Loch Shores. This itinery is designed to give you a flavour of Argyll & The Islands but does not include any specialist pastimes such as hillwalking, golf or fishing which are catered elsewhere.

Tarbert Harbour

This is something of a lazy day out but will give you a flavour of Tarbert and Loch Fyne.

Drive into Tarbert and take a walk around the shops, drop into the Tourist Information Centre in Harbour Street where you will find all the information necessary for your break in Kintyre. Tarbert has plenty of short walks, beaches, small shops with interesting gift ideas and a myriad of good eating places in the hotels, bistros and cafes to suit all budgets. Also, just on the outskirts of the village is the wonderful Mack & Mags which is an eco centre, gift shop and wholefood bistro as well as being a good venue for good local music every Sunday afternoon.

A trip up the hill to the ruins of Robert The Bruce's Castle will reward you with great views over the Tarbert Harbour and Loch Fyne.

Once you have done tarbert and perhaps had an excellent lunch take a short walk or drive along Pier Road to the Portavadie ferry slip at Battery point where you can catch the ferry (www.calmac.co.uk) and enjoy a short cruise on Loch Fyne to Portovadie on Cowal, with remarkable views and sight of the "Sleeping Warrior" on Arran.

On arrival in Portavadie there are well marked short walks along the shore and onto the hill. Once you have walked off lunch then return on the Tarbert ferry.
